YWCA Hunter Region Inc. is part of a national and international movement that has been a cornerstone of the Hunter community for over 100 years. Our mission is to promote women’s leadership and gender equity by driving social and economic change through empowerment and leadership development. As part of a global network spanning 125 countries, we strive to find local solutions to global gender inequalities. The YWCA advocates for peace, justice, human rights, and environmental care, proudly leading efforts to elevate the status of women worldwide.
YWCA Hunter has been supporting and working with women in the Newcastle region since 1880. Today, we continue to support, empower, and connect women and families to build a stronger community. We are excited to be in a season of re-launching YWCA Hunter for a strong and purpose-filled future.
We are looking to expand and diversify our Board of Directors and are calling for Expressions of Interest from individuals who identify as women to join our Board. We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Board Positions:
– Directors are elected for a 3-year term, with the opportunity to serve an additional 3-year term.
– Commitment: 4-6 hours per month inclusive of Board & Subcommittee meetings.
– Election to the Board will occur at the Annual General Meeting to be held in October 2024
– Board meetings are held via video conferencing on an 8-weekly basis after normal business hours (AEDT/AEST)
– We encourage applications from individuals residing in or with experience in the Hunter Region.
Desired Skills and Experience:
We are looking for candidates with expertise in the following areas:
– Finance and Grant Writing
– Legal and Industrial Relations
– Government Relations and Advocacy
– Program Development and Evaluation
