Dr Claire Treadgold

Starlight Children’s Foundation

Dr Treadgold is the National Manager of Research and Evaluation for Starlight Children’s Foundation and an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Discipline of Paediatrics, UNSW Medicine & Health, UNSW Sydney. She has over twenty-five years' experience in for-purpose organisations, including as a former National Program Manager of the YWCA Encore Program and National Manager of Programs and Services for CanTeen (young people living with cancer). With a PhD in education, and other degrees in arts, communications and youth development, Claire has published papers and book chapters on psychosocial support, arts in health, advocacy, peer support and program/service delivery, amongst other areas.

Prof. Sandi Hayes

Cancer Council QLD

As Director of Research of the Viertel Cancer Research Centre, Professor Sandi Hayes leads a comprehensive program of cancer research spanning prevention through to survivorship. Following undergraduate training in exercise science, postgraduate training in exercise oncology and postdoctoral training in cancer survivorship epidemiology, Professor Hayes has led cancer cohort studies and clinical trials focused on understanding and reducing cancer-related morbidity, as well as enhancing quality of life and survival for those diagnosed with cancer. Professor Hayes’s pioneering research in exercise oncology and cancer-related lymphoedema have driven international guidelines, policies and practice.

Prof. Neil Piller

Lymphoedema Research & Advocacy Leader

Professor Neil Piller is Director of the Lymphoedema Clinical Research Unit at Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, an advisory committee member of ENCORE, a board member of the SA Health Compression Garment Scheme and a member of the Australasian Lymphoedema Association Research Committee. Neil is Clinical Sciences Editor (Journal of Lymphoedema), Australasian Editor (Lymphatic Research/Biology) and an Editorial Board member of the journals of Lymphology and Phlebology. Neil is patron of the patient based Lymphoedema Association of South Australia. Neil and team are currently investigating the effect of vibration on lymphoedematous legs while his Ph D students are investigating the impact of climate on chronic oedemas and lymphoedemas, on determining the true prevalence of all lymphoedemas and the benefits of pre surgical and baseline measurements in patients at high risk of Breast Cancer related lymphoedema . His recent editorials have been about Ai and e-learning in lymphoedema care with Andrea Mangion, the lymphatics of the feet and legs with Peta Tehan. Recent podcasts have been about the relationship between diet, the microbiome, gut health, lymphatics, the brain drains and MLD, and recent editorials about “Pressure: Are we getting it right?, “What about us - the Patient Perspective” and “Are we there yet?” in the Journal of Lymphoedema. Neil also has published about the benefits of electro-stimulation of the nerves, muscles, veins and lymphatics as well as how we might counteract lymphatic senescence through improving lymphatic function. Neil is committed to improving the outcomes for lymphoedema patients by ensuring treatment strategies are targeted/sequenced. He is also helping therapists and clinicians deliver optimal results, which meet patient functional and personal needs with a holistic multi-disciplinary approach through participating in a range of training programs.

Assoc Prof. Louise Koelmeyer

Australian Lymphoedema Education, Research and Treatment Centre

Associate Professor Louise Koelmeyer is the Head, Department of Health Sciences and Director of the Australian Lymphoedema Education, Research and Treatment Centre (ALERT) within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences at Macquarie University. Louise is a lymphoedema therapist (Occupational Therapist), educator and researcher with over 30 years of clinical experience in both public and private hospital and clinic settings specialising in breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management in all areas of assessment, education, early detection and treatment. Louise is involved in strategically managing and developing the education, research and treatment arms of the innovative multidisciplinary, translational clinical, research and education program that is a recognised LE&RN Centre of Excellence.

Hildegard Reul-Hirche

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital

Hildegard is an experienced physiotherapist with a longstanding commitment to breast cancer rehabilitation and the management of lymphoedema. Her association with Encore spans many years, including her collaborative work with Sandi Hayes on training and  the  revision of the program manual. Hildegard currently serves as the Co-Curriculum Leader and Facilitator of the Lymphoedema Management Courses for Allied Health Professionals at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she continues to educate and mentor clinicians in best-practice care.
